What does 9H hardness mean?

9H hardness refers to the hardness of the glass itself. It is measured using the Mohs scale, which is scaled numerically from 1 to 10. A hardness of 1 means that the material is easily scratched by the fingernail (this hardness is likened to the mineral talc). A material with a hardness of 10, on the other hand, cannot be gouged even with a file (this hardness is compared to diamond). According to this scale, hardened glasses should be as hard as the mineral corundum (level 9), which would take a truly superhuman effort to scratch.
